Greater Pharma Manufacturing is one of three ISPE 2016 Facility of the Year Award (FOYA) Honorable Mention Winners for their Greater Pharma New Facility project in Bangkok, Thailand. Greater Pharma Manufacturing produces tablets, capsules, sachets and liquids for the local Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) market and is the first of its kind to apply western standards for the design, build, and operation of their pharmaceutical facility. In Thailand, a typical medium sized pharmaceutical production company in the ASEAN Region produces formulated product and packing for distribution of its products to hospitals, wholesalers, and major retail outlets often through government contracts, with some companies exporting to other ASEAN countries. In this typical facility, there are 300 staff, producing 100 products, mainly OSD with conventional API (no potent products), plus liquids and creams. These facilities process 50 batches a week, in a multi-product processing plant with open processing, to produce approximately one million tablets using methods used in the US and EU from 30 years ago. Facing pressure from two directions, from rising concerns on healthcare budgets and the adoption of new regulations, Greater Pharma Manufacturing took the initiative to change that outdated mindset and build a pharmaceutical facility similar to what we typically see in US and EU:
This facility will be recognized as the model facility in Thailand and allow other local companies in the ASEAN region to emulate and develop similar facilities to improve the quality of medicines provided by local companies.
ISPE congratulates the Great Pharma Manufacturing team for their achievements and FOYA Honorable Mention Win. Learn more the Greater Pharma New Facility project. Join ISPE and prominent industry leaders as we recognize the 2016 FOYA Category Winners for their innovation and creativity in pharmaceutical and biotechnology facility design, construction and operation at the FOYA Banquet on the evening of Tuesday, 7 June 2016 in North Bethesda, MD during the ISPE/FDA/PQRI Quality Manufacturing Conference.
