ISPE CEO and President John Bournas is recognized as a top-10 Industry Influencer by UK publication The Medicine Maker. The April issue of The Medicine Maker boasts a bold cover inspired by Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, whose oeuvre, works of pure abstraction, were the result of methodical analysis—a fitting tribute to the publication’s 2017 Power List. ISPE CEO and President John Bournas is one of 10 individuals to grace the cover, which also features Novartis CEO Joseph Jimenez (July-August 2016, PE) and Biocon Founder, Chair and Managing Director Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (May-June 2016, PE).
ISPE members Andy Skibo, former ISPE Board Chair, and Jim Breen, ISPE Board Secretary, also made the list. Skibo ranked third in the top 10 Industry Influencers, Bournas ranked seventh and, Breen was among the top 25 in the same category. “When I see the names of Andy Skibo and Jim Breen, two of ISPE’s guiding beacons, on the same list, I feel humbled as well as honored with this recognition,” said Bournas. Bournas was recognized for developing ISPE’s global initiatives and business operations, leading organizational efforts in solidifying working relationships with international regulators, and spearheading global initiatives such as the Drug Shortages Prevention Plan. Skibo was cited as wanting to see “the pharma industry work closer with regulatory agencies to find ways to dramatically reduce the cost of developing new drugs, and the cost of clinical trials, without sacrificing product safety or affecting patient risks.” Breen, in his statement, foresees “pharma becoming more globally connected over the next five years, and greater speed and availability of data to drive faster decisions in pharma research, development, and manufacturing.” Now in its third year, the Power List celebrates “100 individuals involved in bettering the pharma industry and bringing life-changing medicines to market” across four categories: masters of the bench, industry influencers, business captains, and champions of change, and identifies 25 individuals in each one.
